My Story

Dancing Past Convention & Creating Digital Communities

Before tragedy rewrote my story, I lived a life full of contradictions.

Born in Liverpool but an adopted Mancunian since 1990, I was a vibrant part of Manchester's 90s party scene. The iconic Haçienda was my second home, and I thrived on the adrenaline of podium dancing and promoting legendary venues like The Paradise Factory. I lived for the moment, fueled by the energy of a city that never stopped moving.

So it was no surprise when my passion for events eventually took centre stage. From running front of house at the legendary Mash & Air to leading events at the Trafford Centre, I discovered my calling. This passion led me to found Don't Panic Events, a business that grew into a global operation, producing 22 prestigious awards shows, employing 20 talented individuals, and weathering the storm of a global pandemic.

But everything changed after losing Andy. The fire that once fueled my events career burned differently. And while managing two successful businesses and parenting a grieving child, I sought solace in the bottle.

Unlike the stereotype of most alcoholics, I was hyper-functioning - on fire in the boardroom and the bedroom

But eventually alcohol took its toll and in November 2024, I checked into the Priory for a 28-day rehab program, benefiting from medical detox, therapy, and counseling to face my demons and manage my grief.

Grief became my unexpected catalyst for innovation. With no prior tech experience, I secured three rounds of investment to launch dating platforms designed for underserved communities, including Chapter 2, WidowsFire and my latest venture Sober Love - proof that even in the darkest moments, transformation is possible.

Sobriety continues to bring clarity. Now, 120 days sober, I’ve redefined my business philosophy: identifying underserved communities and creating solutions that combine empathy with innovation.

Through connection and community, I’ve overcome challenges that once seemed insurmountable. These experiences have shaped not only who I am but also the mission-driven work I do today.
